Eczema Awareness Month

I have a skin condition and when it comes to this condition there is a lot of missed information when it comes to dermatitis because generally people don’t know what eczema is, or never seen eczema. Some people think if you have eczema that means you have dry skin, or sensitive skin. However, having eczema is a serious condition.

 Introduction into Dermatitis

Dermatitis means inflammation of the skin. Eczema is a group of skin conditions in which people experience different symptoms like skin itchy, dry, welts on the skin and inflamed, weeping of the skin, rash, open sores, and blister, and hives. Also, Eczema can cause black patches and skin pigmentation.

Eczema is not an autoimmune disease; however, immune system problems can trigger more flare-ups.Flare-ups and allergic reactions can both be triggered by food, Environmental, chemical, and maternal.

Flare-ups and allergic reactions can last for weeks. A person with (Eczema) experience different symptoms. Dermatitis reaction can go from minor, bad to worse. There is no cure for Eczema, however there are treatments that help treat Eczema.

Please find a medical assistant /dermatologist for treatment, and please don't search for treatment(ointments and medication) online because that treatment might make  your condition worse.

Note: You can have flare-ups and allergic reaction on any part of your body.

These words Eczema and Dermatitis are interlinked with each other.

You can be born with Eczema Dermatitis, because of the genes you inherit from your parents. One or both parents might have Eczema.  I had my first Dermatitis reaction at the age of five and I’m still dealing with skin conditions in adulthood.

Eczema is not contagious: meaning that another person can not catch your Eczema. However, a person with dermatitis can get skin reactions from using other people's items or letting someone use your personal item. Eczema is not just dry and sensitive skin.

You can have dry and sensitive skin, and not have Eczema. However, Eczema can cause sensitive skin, but sensitive skin can be linked to other conditions.

There are many types Dermatitis (eczema), and here are types I know about .

  • Atopic dermatitis (eczema).

  • Contact dermatitis.

  • Nummular dermatitis

  • Diaper dermatitis (rash).

  • Seborrheic dermatitis

  • Discoid dermatitis

  • Stasis dermatitis

Note:  It is possible to have more than one type of Dermatitis.

Sincerely,

L.K.G
